Technically I'm Travelling

Ok so it's not Rome. but currently I am in Marysville Kansas visiting my girlfriend Megan's family (you'll see more of her later since she will be travelling with me for the first two weeks.) It's a small community of about, oh 3,143 as of 2006 census but apparently is emptying out a bit. It is sad to see a tightly knit community like this slowly be bled dry of people, but with tv, internet, and globalization what it is, it must be hard to keep every successive generation from wanting to get away to larger cities with more opportunities.

This is going to be a relaxing trip with lots of golf and from what I can tell so far, even more comfort food and captain morgan's (Megan's father's favorite.) When we walk into the clubhouse at the Marysville countryclub, I am immediately reminded of Norm walking into Cheers. "JOHN!" screeemed the unified voice from the bar. And within seconds, John is holding a drink called...what else, a John--double captain and coke in a styrofoam cup. It was a great evening of getting to meet people, and get to know Megan's family a little more.

So that's what's happening outside over there for now. I'll update more as things arise.

Cheers!

First Post Ever

This post is more for me than for anyone else. I am setting this up and want to play with the options and see if blogger.com will meet my needs for a blogging site.

That being said, hello. If you are reading this odds are you know me so I will just skim over the basics. My name is Thomas Wall and I am a graduate student at the University of Kansas getting my M.Arch. The purpose of this blog is to keep a (hopefully) detailed record of my upcoming 7 months abroad. My travels are going to take me to Italy, Spain, France, England and Ireland, Denmark (and most of the rest of Scandinavia), Russia, and knowing me a few other random places along the way.

I am doing this not only for family and friends to see what I am up to but also as a tool for future travelers in the KU abroad program specifically those who are going to be attending either the furniture design or architecture programs through the DIS (Danish Institute for Study Abroad...apparently DISA wasn't short enough or perhaps is a swear in another language) program.

And here I post a picture. My current location.
